So, I was watching CNN today (as I do most days to stay informed on what is going on on a daily basis) and saw something that really upset me. There are things that I see on TV that I agree with it. There are things that I don't agree with it. I am sometimes indefinite about a few things. However, I occasionally see certain things that worry me about the mindset of some people who we like to call an ordinary American. I use that term loosely when I think or speak about this individual. I can understand disagreements coming up amongst the country when they look at the politicians who govern on behalf of us. I understand when Americans want to "fulfill" their Constitutional rights. But there comes a limit and there comes instances when certain people really need to check themselves. Free speech is a right, but if some people continue to misuse it; I honestly belief it should be monitored and be a privilege to some. I try to be very objective when I look at anything but COME ON.
I might have my opinion or favor one side, but I take the time to look at both sides to see if my side is truly the better side/option. I find myself agreeing as well as disagreeing with our elected officials. Lest we remember they are human just like us and aren't perfect. I didn't always agree with everything President George W. Bush was doing. I think President Bill Clinton made errors and mistakes worry of disagreement or disliking him or his administration. And currently President Barack Obama (who has only been in office for all of 7 months) has not been perfect. We don't have to like our presidents, our Congress, or any other elected official at all times, but we should at least give them a certain amount of respect cause...OH YEA YOU AREN'T IN THAT PRESSURE SEAT!
That brings me to my point. Like I said I haven't always agreed with politicians' decisions, but I haven't wished they would fail (like some media members/politicians/any random ordinary citizen or American has done). And I have NEVER, EVER wished that my president or anyone else that is a public official or private citizen would die. And not just to die, but via a terminal disease. On rare occasion would that even warrant being said (i.e. a vicious killer/mass murder). So, when I heard and saw an Arizona preacher give a sermon titled something along the lines of "I Want Barack Obama to Die". Really?! I understand if people might not like someone and/or their policies, but last time I checked Barack Obama has not warranted anything close to deserving this type of hatred. And then to bring up a recently deceased, highly credible and respected man by both sides of the aisle, Ted Kennedy, is absolutely despicable. To wish that someone who has tried to HELP America be cursed with brain cancer is way past the line. I really wonder why you, a religious man, would hate someone so much for no reason that you hope he dies. I hate to say it but I think deep down you are flipping racist. You (like some people in this country) hate the fact that an African American is in the White House and maybe just maybe he might succeed.
What is going to take before Americans shut their mouths for once and open their eyes and ears. Don't speak for the church and then damn people. Don't tell me how religious are and then commit adultery. Don't hate someone cause they have a different skin color then you. Don't look for your president to fail because guess what you fail as a consequence. See that is part of the problem: people don't realize the big picture and what it brings. They don't see things in the long term and only say "What about today." Or say "What about me" or "What are you doing for me." Stop feeding the paranoia and lies! Stop listening to men like this pastor! When we ignore those who represent the far right and far left, then they fail. Those are the people who need to start failing because they run their mouths and spew garbage that unfortunately trickles down the weak men and women of this country. For those who don't like President Obama's policies, you have that right, but make sure you can PROVE with FACTS that there is a better option then he is presenting on an issue. However, if it is because President Obama happens to not be white like all his predecessors, then like I said SHUT UP FLIPPING MOUTHS! You are putting progress back and basically because you suck at life doesn't mean you have some right to judge an individual despite his skin color if he (or she) wants to succeed and you don't/can't.
This Arizona pastor was just the latest individual to piss me off with his words and statements that have no right be being said. I know that these individuals are not the majority, but the fact they get their voices heard should not be allowed. Free speech in the country is a Constitutional right that from my viewpoint is often misused. We have bloggers, protesters, media representatives on television and on radio, and anyone else with a pulpit and microphone expressing their bias views. I agree that George W. Bush wasn't the best president we have ever had. I also agree that there were times when he drew criticism and was also made fun of in cartoons and speeches and such. I don't remember some of the things I see and hear being directed toward President Obama ever being addressed toward President Bush. The most heated hatred came from the Iraq War, which to me is a valid reason to express dislike. Once again, I'm telling people to OPEN THEIR EYES AND OPEN YOUR EARS. THINK FOR YOURSELVES! And most of all as the Rock used to say: KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Because truly it doesn't matter what you think...and most would hopefully agree with me.
