Another week of action and 5 teams still remain flawless. The Colts, Giants, and Vikings have continued to play strong and win the games they are supposed. The Saints return from a bye week and have a big game with the Giants on tap. While the Broncos continue to shock many and remain undefeated. If it weren't for a crazy game winning play for the Broncos, we would be discussing the Bengals in top 5, but they are right outside of that discussion. A week after the Favre Monday Night game, the Jets and Dolphins put on a show in probably the craziest back and forth fourth quarter of the year.
The Colts remain in the top spot while the Broncos and Bengals continue their rise up the rankings. The Jets, Patriots, and Ravens all took a bit of stumble with their second losses of the year.
2009 Power Rankings (going into Week 6):
1.(1) Colts (5-0): Another big game for the Peyton Manning led Colts. He keeps finding new guys each week to step up for him.
2.(2) Giants (5-0): Eli Manning didn’t have to do too much this week as the playing the Raiders is good way to deal with an injury.
3.(4) Vikings (5-0): This team is hitting on all cylinders and could make another statement against a tough Baltimore team.
4.(3) Saints (4-0): Drew Brees has had a week off and he should come out firing after a couple off weeks for him and will need to.
5.(8) Broncos (5-0): If you didn’t think this team was really good, now you have to after a big win over the Patriots.
6.(11) Bengals (4-1): There were doubters about the Bengals thus far and they proved again that they are a top team. They are 3-0 in one of the toughest divisions.
7.(9) Falcons (3-1): The Falcons came out strong after a bye week and made the 49ers look lost all day.
8.(10) Eagles (3-1): Donovan McNabb returned and now this offense can do a lot of things to win a lot of games.
9.(5) Jets (3-2): Not the result the Jets were hoping to get after a tough loss in New Orleans. The defense looked exposed against the Wildcat, but they are still a tough corp.
10.(7) Patriots (3-2): Tom Brady has not looked like the Tom Brady of old this year and has struggled at times.
11.(6) Ravens (3-2): This team looked like possibly the best team in the league after 3 games and now have suffered losses to two top teams and now prepare for another big battle against the Vikings.
12.(13) Packers (2-2): They had a bye week to fix some of the pressure problems that Aaron Rodgers was getting against the Vikings.
13.(14) Bears (3-1): After losing Brian Urlacher, this team has exceeding expectations thus far.
14.(15) Steelers (3-2): They seem to have a running game going with Rashard Mendenhall.
15.(12) 49ers (3-2): A tough one to chew on this week. They looked overmatched against a Falcons team and Dre’ Bly’s arrogant mistake only added to the bad day.
16.(16) Chargers (2-2): They return from a bye with a matchup against the Broncos for AFC West supremacy.
17.(17) Cardinals (2-2): They looked pretty good after the bye week, but need to get a running game to balance their passing attack.
18.(20) Cowboys (3-2): They needed overtime to beat the Chiefs but still got it done. Still have a ways to improve.
19.(21) Dolphins (2-3): The Wildcat is dangerous when run by the Dolphins. They have a capable quarterback in Chad Henne to keep them competitive.
20.(26) Seahawks (2-3): Matt Hasselbeck’s return was a big boost and they looked a strong team that was winning divisions against the Jaguars.
21.(18) Jaguars (2-3): Things were looking up until they went to Seattle and got blanked by four touchdowns.
22.(19) Texans (2-3): They had a chance to tie the game and even win the game, but had poor redzone play calling.
23.(24) Panthers (1-3): A win’s a win, but it came against the offensive-woed Redskins. They still have many problems to fix.
24.(22) Redskins (2-3): This team might be the biggest problem currently in the nation’s capital. Jim Zorn’s seat keep getting hotter.
25.(28) Lions (1-4): They may have only one win, but this team is playing harder this year.
26.(25) Bills (1-4): This team can’t seem to get a offense going and had another late mistake that cost them a win.
27.(23) Titans (0-5): This team is truly struggling on defense and needs to go back to drawing board immediately as the Patriots are next and they are coming off a loss.
28.(31) Browns (1-4): They were due for a win sometime I guess. It wasn’t really pretty though and still aren’t a good team.
29.(27) Raiders (1-4): This team is in a downward spiral led by a quarterback in JaMarcus Russell who seems to be the farthest thing from a starting quarterback.
30.(29) Chiefs (0-5): They were so close to getting a win against the Cowboys, but were downed in overtime.
31.(30) Buccaneers (0-5): Each week it seems this team adds more question marks about their team. This team has truly fallen on hard times.
32.(32) Rams (0-5): Routed again this week. They had Marc Bulger return and showed some signs of offense in the second half when the game was pretty much over and the Vikings had backups in.
