College Football Week 2 Power Rankings

Opening weekend for college football did not have a lot marquee matchup but that did not deter the excitement for most fans to have 5 days of college football to start the year. Most of the top team took care of business as expected and Clemson delivered a statement in their win over Georgia in an awesome top ten contest. The same could be said of another top 25 battle between LSU and TCU as it truly came down to the 4th in that one too. While TCU and Georgia slip a little due to losses, Boise State is the only team to fall out of the top 25 after their crushing defeat at Washington, who jumps into the top 25. Oregon State flirted with my top 25 last week and was in many other polls. They might have had one of the toughest losses as they fell Eastern Washington.

With Week 2 quickly approaching, here are this week's power rankings:

1)(1) Alabama (BYE)- They are not exactly as sharp as they could be on the offensive line but look to be a strong team again this year.
2)(3) Oregon (at Virginia)- They look to have not missed a beat without head coach Chip Kelly and could be in the title picture come the end of the season.
3)(2) Ohio State (vs San Diego St)- They certainly were not as strong as they could have been and time will tell if they are truly a title contender.
4)(4) Stanford (vs San Jose St)- They finally hit the field and should look to shine and show they are one of the top teams.
5)(6) South Carolina (at Georgia)- They played very well to open the year and can really make a statement this week against a Georgia team coming off a tough loss.
6)(9) Clemson (vs South Carolina St)- They took another step to proving that they are for real as they won their second straight game over a SEC team and now have a favorable road to being in the title picture.
7)(7) Texas A&M (vs Sam Houston St)- While only playing most of the second half, QB Johnny Manziel shows flashes of greatness and he'll need to use this week to not only sharpen his skills but his attitude heading into a key clash on the 14th against Alabama.
8)(8) Louisville (vs Eastern Kentucky)- QB Teddy Bridgewater put on one of the best performances of Week 1 and despite their weak schedule, he and his team deserve to be in the national conversation.
9)(10) Florida State (BYE)- Freshman QB Jameis Winston could not have had a better debut and they appear on a collision course with Clemson for a chance at an ACC title.
10)(5) Georgia (vs South Carolina)- They had a chance to win their battle with Clemson at multiple points. Instead of heading home with a big win, they head home down their best receiver and must prepare for another top tier team from the state of South Carolina.
11)(12) LSU (vs UAB)- TCU tested the Tigers throughout most the game. That type of game and a likely easier one this week will give them a good balance of preparation as they start to look at their SEC foes.
12)(11) Florida (at Miami (FL))- They did not play as aggressively as they could have but still showed signs of being a sleeper team in a deep SEC. They cannot take the Hurricanes lightly this week.
13)(13) Notre Dame (at Michigan)- QB Tommy Rees looks to be ready to guide the Fighting Irish potentially back to a BCS game. A trip to the Big House will certainly be a great test as the two teams played close last year.
14)(14) Oklahoma (vs West Virginia)- They were efficient enough in Week 1 and likely will not be tested greatly again this week and that should allow them to continue to get stronger as a team.
15)(15) Oklahoma State (at UTSA)- They could have easily tripped up in Week 1 but came out and showed why they could be headed to a BCS bowl game this year.
16)(16) Texas (at BYU)- It took most of the first half, but once Texas hit their groove they were a scoring machine. They will look to build on that type of second half against BYU.
17)(17) Michigan (vs Notre Dame)- They are not getting a lot of attention compared to the rivals across the border in Ohio but a win against Notre Dame will go a long way in their hopes of Big Ten title and a BCS bowl game.
18)(21) Wisconsin (vs Tennessee Tech)- They look to be a physical team again this year and could improve to be a potential threat in the Big Ten.
19)(18) Nebraska (vs Southern Miss)- They had one of their worse defensive performances in recent memory and will have to play better this week to avoid a loss; something that nearly happened in Week 1 against Wyoming.
20)(23) UCLA (BYE)- They certainly looked explosive showing some carryover from last year and could find themselves against Oregon or Stanford battling for a Pac-12 title.
21)(22) USC (vs Washington State)- They performed pretty well despite some questions going into the first game. The Cougars could provide another good test for how effective they are before they get to tougher games.
22)(24) Northwestern (vs Syracuse)- They were certainly tested at times in Week 1 but showed pull away ability in the 4th quarter. They could take another step towards showing they might be a force in the Big Ten against a slightly challenging Syracuse team.
23)(20) TCU (vs SE Louisiana)- They definitely could have walked out of Dallas with a win over LSU this past weekend. They will use that close loss to fuel them forward and this week can be a great way for them to show just how multifaceted they could be this year.
24)(NR) Washington (BYE)- They definitely put on a performance to say the least against a normally tough Boise State team. They showed some of the potential that Huskie fans have hoped to see for a couple years now and the sky continues to raise for them.
25)(25) Michigan State (vs South Florida)- It was not always pretty but they did enough to pull away and win in Week 1. They can certainly improve on some areas against South Florida this week.

NEXT 5
1) Boise State (vs Tenn Martin)- It has been a pretty regular occurrence to see the Broncos in the top 25 but a tough loss at Washington has them out and they will look to redeem themselves.
2) Miami (FL) (vs Florida)- They are continuing to make their way back to being close to the team they used to be and knocking off Florida could be part of that next step process.
3)Virginia Tech (vs Western Carolina)- They played tough during the first half and minus a turnover and a couple returns, they kept up with Alabama about as good as anybody the last couple years. They should have better luck this week.
4) Baylor (vs Buffalo)- They showed a lot of skill in Week 1 and could duplicate that again this week and start to creep into the top 25 and Big 12 conversation.
5) Arizona State (vs Sacramento State)- They finally get to kick off and based on their performance, they could be a team to watch in the Pac-12.

This week is highlighted by another top ten matchup and another top 25 matchup so some movement will be expected again next week. It truly isn't a week in college football without one top 25 getting impacted by a win or loss.
