The second week of action definitely delivered. How bout them...Jets? Indeed. The Jets led by rookie QB Mark Sanchez came in and backed up their talk with a big home victory over a division rival. Not just any rival but the vaunted Patriots with Tom Brady at the helm. I will keep saying it...but these aren't the 2007 Patriots. Reality Check...CASHED! The other New York team, the Giants, took care of business in Big D on the night that Jerry Jones opened up his new stadium. It took a come winning drive to get it done by QB Eli Manning, but nonetheless the Giants look again even without their two best wideouts of the last few years. Not to be outdone by little brother, the Colts and QB Peyton Manning had their own game winning drive and only had the ball for 25% of the game. Not bad for the brothers Manning this week.
The Lions unfortunately continued to lose. Now their losing streak is up to 19, but might have a chance to break it this week. Chad Ochocinco vowed to do the Lambeau Leap...and he did. He could have guaranteed a victory too...the Bengals shocked the Packers and pulled off a nice upset. The Cardinals showed signs against the Jaguars of the team they could be again this year. Time will tell. The Steelers looked good against the Titans, but struggled last week against the Bears and need to right the ship fast as the Ravens are looking dangerous. All and all, I went 11-5 last week and brings my total to 24-8 after two weeks.
Now for Week 3:
Packers at Rams: The Packers suffered a tough loss at home to Bengals last week and should be able to get back on track against the Rams. The Rams continue to lack an offense like they used to. Pick: Packers
49ers at Vikings: This is probably the prime battle of the week despite the fact its a 1pm game. Its the only matchup of 2-0 teams and both are running the ball very good. The 49ers are also stopping the run about as well as they are operating the run. QB Brett Favre will probably have to step up this week as HB Adrian Peterson might be slowed down this week. The 49ers have shown big improvements thus far and could very easily move to 3-0...but so can the Vikings. Should be close. Pick: Vikings
Falcons at Patriots: The Falcons are 2-0 and look to be gelling quite well offensively with new weapon TE Tony Gonzalez. The Patriots are 1-1 and were dangerously close to 0-2. The Patriots haven't lost consecutively games in a very long time. Something tells me they get it done at home against this good Falcons team. Pick: Patriots
Titans at Jets: The Titans are struggling and are 0-2 while the Jets look to be gaining confidence each week. The rookie QB and the rookie coach have the Jets thinking big things this year and each has lived up to their hype thus far. This is an important early game for the Titans and a good test for the Jets at the same time. Pick: Jets
Chiefs at Eagles: QB Kevin Kolb will start again for the Eagles, but this week should be a little different. The Chiefs are still struggling and the Eagles should be able to do enough to get out with win. Pick: Eagles
Giants at Buccaneers: The Giants have looked like one of the best teams. The Buccaneers have looked like one of the worst teams. Enough said. Pick: Giants
Browns at Ravens: Let me repeat my point from the last game. The Ravens have looked like one of the best teams. The Browns have looked like one of the worst teams. Enough said. Pick: Ravens
Jaguars at Texans: The Jaguars are struggling again this year. The Texans are 1-1 and have a chance to build on last week's win and show more improvement in 2009. This is a crucial game for both teams considering they play in the same division as the Colts. Pick: Texans
Redskins at Lions: Could this finally be the week? The Redskins are struggling to score and the Lions are struggling to...well, win. The Lions have looked a little better than last year. Is that good enough for a win? UPSET Pick: Lions
Bears at Seahawks: The Seahawks will be without their QB, Matt Hasselbeck, and that could lead to problems. The Bears looked pretty good last week when they knocked off the Steelers in the sloppy conditions. Both teams are 1-1 and might be going in different directions. Seahawks should keep it close. Pick: Bears
Saints at Bills: Here comes the Saints' potent offense. I think going to Buffalo might slow it down a little. However, the Bills' defense can only do so much because the Bills' offense isn't quite gelling yet. Pick: Saints
Steelers at Bengals: The Bengals were a tipped ball away from being 2-0. The Steelers missed two field goals against the Bears. Make one of them and they would be 2-0. However, both enter at 1-1 and are fighting to say behind the Ravens. Steelers have been very successful in Cincinnati in recent years. Pick: Steelers
Dolphins at Chargers: The Dolphins had a big turnaround last year going 11-5 and winning the division. Their reward this year: a tough schedule. They had the Falcons and the Colts thus far and now have a third playoff team from last year in the Chargers. The Chargers and QB Philip Rivers have not always looked as strong as they could be. Both teams are hungry for a win. Pick: Chargers
Broncos at Raiders: The Broncos have looked better than many might have expected considering their off season. The Raiders are playing better overall minus QB JaMarcus Russell. Could be a good division game. Broncos are looking to keep proving they are for real. Pick: Raiders
Sunday Night
Colts at Cardinals: QBs Kurt Warner and Peyton Manning are known to light up the air with their aerial attacks. Both teams have Super Bowl aspirations and this could be a preview. This should be a good one! Pick: Colts
Monday Night
Panthers at Cowboys: Let's try it again. That's what Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are saying as they try to give Jerry's palace a win. The Panthers come in struggling and look like a shell of last year's team. HB Marion Barber for the Cowboys might not go and QB Tony Romo needs to figure out what type of quarterback he will be this year. Panthers' QB Jake Delhomme has not looked great himself. The Cowboys should played inspired on Monday Night. Pick: Cowboys
I'm looking forward to another good weekend of games. Week 3 usually allows for contenders to start to show themselves.
